JEWELRY ADVERTISING

Bogoff Jewelry
1946- about 1959
Chicago, Illinois

One of the most exciting reference sources for attributing and dating vintage jewelry is the advertising in magazines from years past. These wonderful old ads illustrate how jewelry was worn, when it was made, and how it coordinated with the styles of the time.

Most of these ads were shared courtesy of Julie Scarlett, who sells vintage ads under the seller name papercharm on ebay. An added thanks to Pat Seal, who was the source of the dates for many of them. And last, a big thanks to Beth Rowlands of Emerald City Costume Jewelry who so generously shared her extensive Bogoff collection.

BOGOFF jewelry is distinctive in it's style and design, as can be seen in the illustrations below. Begun in about 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, it is thought that they made their last jewelry in the late 1950's. Some of their ads state they had locations in New York, Chicago, Milwaukee and Los Angeles and Gay Bee Jewelry is mentioned in some of their ads. Most pieces use smaller rhinestones set in silver tone, tending toward the delicate and feminine.

PLEASE NOTE: Regretfully, it is no longer possible to respond to individual questions regarding jewelry history, identification or value, or to offer written or verbal appraisals or opinions. The demand for this kind of information is absolutely too overwhelming for one dealer to fill.
I love jewelry, but appraising and selling are two entirely different businesses, and I choose selling and research as my business.

Instead, articles are added on a regular basis to JEWEL CHAT on line Magazine, a wonderful reference for  information on many makers and styles of vintage jewelry.
